The College Board of USA announced that the SAT will be administered digitally beginning in 2023 for international students and in 2024 for students residing in the United States. The digital SAT was first tested in November 2021, and according to the College Board, 80% of students who took part in the trial found it less stressful.
The new digital test will still be graded on a scale of 1600, but it will be shorter and should take two hours rather than three. Calculators will now be permitted on the entire math section, and students and educators should receive results in days rather than weeks.
College Board representatives are optimistic that the changes will improve the test experience while making cheating more difficult. “Going digital allows every student to receive a unique test form, so it will be practically impossible to share answers.”
