Chuadanga district in northern Bangladesh recorded the lowest temperature in the country for the second day in a row. Saturday morning, the temperature was recorded at 8.4°C and Friday at 9°C. The cold upsets daily life, especially for the poor who burn straw by the roadside to keep warm.
Along with this weather front, a mild cold spell is sweeping through northern Bangladesh causing extreme winter temperatures due to fog and wind chill. The weather will remain dry with cloudy skies and moderate to dense fog possible in the morning until noon. Other districts affected by the waves are Naogaon, Dinajpur, Panchagarh and Jessore.
Due to the reduced temperature difference between day and night, the Northern, Northwest and Central regions are likely to experience severe cold and damaging cold. Given the current conditions, there is an increase in patients with diarrhea and pneumonia, most of them children, in medical complexes. Met Office forecasts reveal that temperatures could drop further over the next five days.
