A 20 year old Bangladeshi student shot dead by Boston Police in scuffle

A 20-year-old Bangladeshi student from the University of Massachusetts Amherst was killed by police in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA on Wednesday.

Sayed Faisal, the only child in the family, was charged with refusing to put down the large knife, the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office told CNBC News.

Police said they were called to the Chestnut and Sidney streets area to investigate a report from a man who appeared to be in distress. During the confrontation, a Cambridge Police officer shot the man, the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office said.

While the prosecutor's office initially said the man, identified Wednesday night as Sayed Faisal, 20, was armed with a machete, prosecutors later described the object as a 12-inch knife, which he would refuse to pose. Authorities said Faisal led officers in a multi-block chase through the neighborhood and is believed to have attacked police with a gun.

"In an attempt to defuse the situation, one of the officers fired a less-lethal sponge," said Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan. 'This round did not stop Mr Faisal and he continued to move towards the officers.'
